Jay Hartmann is an MFA student at Tyler School of Art. He was born in Baltimore and has lived all over the U.S. from the Northwest to Hawaii and the Deep South. As a result of moving, Jay strongly associates emotion with location. These attachments have led Jay to paint nostalgia found in the mundane, and now to emotionally charged abstracted landscapes, which examine ideas of escapism, frontier and mental health.
